Klipsch thinks its Image in-ear headphones are worth serious money. Being the doyens of the quality-per-quid review, we were sceptical - but that was before we got them out of the box. Now, in fact, we're prepared to say that, so long as you know what you're getting into here, we think the Images are worth it.
These are simply tiny headphones, weighing in at just 10 grams, and without the provided selection of different-sized silicon tips they're too small to stay in anyone's ears. Once you've found the tips that fit you best, though, they're simultaneously excellent at cancelling outside noise and remaining secure and comfortable for hours on end.
But the clincher is the way they perform. They're revealing enough to expose the limitations of your iPod, and make the difference between a lossless file and a squashed 128kbps file explicit.
Bass is deep, solid and taut, the soundstage is considerably wider than your head, and there're prodigious levels of fine detail available. Musical, comfortable, lightweight and sturdy, the Klipsch Image is everything you want from a pair of headphones. At a price.
