Bought my KDL 40V4000 from my local sony centre. It came all part of an offer with a BDP-S350 Blu ray player and TV stand for £799. I was impressed in the shop with both the picture quality and price as well as the 5 year warrenty but when i got it set-up i was so disappointed.
The screen has a dead pixel which you wouldn't expect on a new set, also i feel the picture lacks sharpness and the sounds not a patch on my old 33inch Toshiba with Pro logis. I've not adjusted the settings yet so i guess I need to do this before passing judgement, but as i stands I'd gladly swop it for a quality samsung, toshiba or panasonic. The remote is another thing i'm not happy with.
I find the buttons alittle small and fiddley. Remotes should be user-friendly Sony. I've also tried the player with a Blu ray disc too and can't see what all the fuss is about, wasn't impressed at all. I'm i missing something here? Can anyone advise me on how to get the best from this TV and Player?
The TV and Player are connected to a Sky + box via a standard scart and HDMI lead.I'm also keen to improve the sound for my music channels and music CD/DVD play back. Don't want loads of wires or speakers, just a really good sound for about £300. Any idears?

Chose the John Lewis option, can afford to wait a couple of days in return for free 5 year guarantee. It was £499 today but it came up as £599 on their website and may change back to that soon.

Bought today (27/12/08) for £499. Get Comet to match John Lewis who are honouring their internet price of £499 during the sale period (ticketed in store at £599). This is because JL don't keep tv in stock but Comet do. This TV is by far the best on the market for the price. Many 32" are more pricey. The colours are excellent. Quickly played Casino Royale on PS3 Blue-ray and the quality was superb. Compared to the Toshiba 40" on sale in Comet for £499 this Sony is much better. Took the Toshiba back and exchanged when I saw the Sony deal! Buy, buy, buy!!

er didn't realised I had already posted a review. Ignore my earlier rant. For the price this is excellent - end of.

Bought this on Amazon in November for £700 based on the Whathifi review. Made schoolboy error by not going to see the TV in a shop first. Was replacing a 5 year old Samsung 32" TV.
When got it out of the box was amazed at the light weight. Then when conneted it up couldn't believe how poor the picture was from my standard Sky+ box.
Researched it online and found that out of the box the settings could be awful. So applied those and was better but still not great.
So have ordered sky hd which will arrive in Jan.
Watching blu-ray via ps3 + sony dav 2.1 home cinema has been superb except for a tolerable amount of picture judder on panning shots with vertical lines (bulidings for example)
Also found that some older films on blu-ray (Goodfellas)were very fuzzy. Eventually turned off the digital noise reduction and this was solved.
So in conclusion for the price is rude not to aslong as you accept that SD will not be great (like to think is because the TV highlights the poor quality as opposed to a weakness in the TV - the size magnifies this aswell).
Am aware that the W4500 is What-hifi TV of the year but until this gets within a hundred quid or so of this I don't believe you will be disappointed!

I was suprised by the performance of the Sony KDL 40V4000 tv when I visited a friend of mine recently. He had put together a very good AV system consisting of the Yamaha DSP-AX763, Kef 1005.2 Panasonic DMP-BD35 bluray player, Sky HD box and the aforementioned Sony.
He admitted that the picture quality was truly awful when he first turned it on ( cloudy, blocky, backlight pollution of dark scenes & washed out colours ), but after allowing for a 12 hours running in period & using the THX video calibration on the " Finding Nemo " dvd its picture quality was transformed into a fantastic display.
This I witnessed for myself ( me being a " plasma is always better" enthusiast ) . I had arrived from having watched Batman Begins ( on HD DVD using my Pioneer PDPLX508D/Toshiba hd dvd player/Onkyo 905 combo ), expecting a good but nothing special performance from his Sony LCD. Instead the picture quality was extremely good on HD sources & better than most LCD screens I've seen on SD. It displayed far better resolution on dark scenes, crisp detail, rich and subtle colours plus excellent motion tracking (confirmed by watching football on Sky sports HD ).
His overall outlay for his system was £1100 ( including cables from QED ). The Sony ( though overall inferior to my PDPLX508D plasma screen ) has made realise that LCD have progressed far enough to be taken seriously as an alternative to an plasma screen. Truly excellent.

Bought this week on strength of WhatHifi review for £600 from Amazon. Upgrading from 32" Samsung Plano CRT. Running Sony DAV-F200 upsacler and Sky+ into it. Qed Hdmi from Sony DAV and Thor Scart from Sky+.
Never have I been so disappointed in a product - especially one so well reviewed. Can only get rid of the awful grainy pic when in Theatre mode on TV and settings adjusted to ones I found online. This gives a very muted, soft picture which seems to be best possible. I am not blaming the TV until I know the set up I have is not to blame. Anyone with any suggestions I'm all ears. PS3 arriving this week so hope Bluray will make some amends. Am not considering Sky HD as yet.
There are a lot of extremely impressive 37-40in sets available, but this is the one with the real 'wow' factor
Panasonic meets expectations and delivers a genuine home cinema bargain
