Your answer to this will be provided in next month's issue of the magazine - hold on until then, although I expect the Sony to emerge victorious.

Yup, the new budget Sony will be up against its rivals. Should be quite a battle. And then there are the new Panasonics on the way too.

Re: New Blu-ray

Age old question I guess but just how long do I hold off buying just in case a new, better edition becomes available? I'm aware there's a great new Sony coming soon followed by some new Pana's but do I buy the new Sony or wait a further couple of months for the new Panny's by which time there'll be some new Sony's in the pipeline..........etc,etc,etc

Re: New Blu-ray

I bought the BD50 when it came out at the end of June/beginning of July and here we are in August and I'm already told it is being replaced.  & this is a 5 star player, according to WHF.  I certainly have no problems with it.  I'm still not convinced Panny's action is anything other than firstly ensuring they had the first dedicated Profile 2.0 player in the BD50 and also to make sure they would also be releasing new product when everyone else does.

I don't think you'd be disappointed if you bought either a BD30 or BD50 when their prices plummet once the new Panny's are close to release.  If you could get either of those cheaper than the new Sony, it's well worth considering...

Panasonic TH-42PZ800, Panasonic DMP-BD50, Pioneer DV600 (Multi), Onkyo DS-A1X, Arcam DiVA CD73T, Onkyo TX-SR875, Monitor Audio Silver RS6AV (Fronts Bi-Amped, Centre, Bi-Wired), Chord & QED Cables, 2 x Tacima Mains Conditioners, Sky HD!

Re: New Blu-ray

I'm assuming that the new Version 80GB PS3 due for release this week has had no upgrade to it's blu-ray components??

Re: New Blu-ray

Not that  Sony has mentioned - but we're testing one right now, which will go into that Group Test.
