I may have been born in 1993, but I have a complete fixation with anything regarding 1979! Supertramp, Breakfast in America (my now favourite ever album) is just plain awsome on all levels! You know what, when I played it to my friends (on our school Arcam/Ruark system) they absolutly loved it! I dunno what it is about the brilliant song "The Logical Song" and "Breakfast in America" the track, but they are just ledgendary songs that one cannot help but love!

And I havn't even discussed "Dreamer"!

My brother (five yeas older than me) played that album to death  - I used to bang on the wall of his bedroom to get him to turn it down... so I could listen to 1950s/1960s music.

I know what it's like to be musically born out of time! Enjoy  

Ah Hughesy, you would have loved to have been there. Musically they were great days. I guess you`ll just have to console yourself with the fact that you have great taste and can at least enjoy such albums as golden oldies. Not quite the same as being around at the time but it could be worse, you could be the age you are and have no taste in music at all like many unfortunates.

For me the stand out track on the album is `Goodbye Stranger`.

Supertramp, Yes, Pink Floyd, The Police, The Jam, Abba, Blondie, The Eagles, Queen, Led Zepellin, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Genesis, Rainbow, Barclay James Harvest, etc etc etc etc etc

Clare: Your brother has taste (but I'm not an avid 50s fan!) The only thing I like from the 50s is Elvis and some jazz, but the 60s was much better! The monkeys are my favourite from the 60s!

Check out the charity shops for the album Retrospectacle, A Supertramp Anthology. I've seen it a few times and it's worthy of a couple of quid!!

I will do - I work in the BHF and I get volunteers discount, so I'll check for a copy!

I've also been playing Argus by Wishbone Ash a lot recentlyand it is still up there with the best but they never get mentioned these days, alas. I loaned it to my mate, a guitar teacher, who'd never heard it before and it totally blew him away. He couldn't believe how good the musicianship was.

There are so many tremendous albums from this era that have been lebelled as 'prog' or some such pathetic label and as such has been totally overlooked. I defy anybody that is into good music not enjoy some of these classics. Put your misconceptions aside and go seek them out.

You are absolutely right. `Argus` by Wishbone Ash is a classic and when you consider how little a remastered version with new liner notes and bonus tracks costs it`s a wonder that not more people have it in their collection than currently do.
