Hi clown

I agree with you as things stand at the moment but from what I gather there are some genuine technological breakthroughs just on around the corner for LCD (probably next year) which should close the gap completely with regards to contrast and brightness  but especially for black levels.

As I said before, I am no expert but would expect the traditional Plasma fortes such as motion handling, colors and the said black levels will loose their advantage to an extend, perhaps even completely by next year or 2010 and those LCD's will of course lack some of the drawbacks that plasmas have.

But these new sets probably won't be cheap initially (soon thereafter they will be no doubt). Also, having just bought a plasma myself, I have to seriously question whether you can actually improve upon the picture of this particular model or indeed, whether I need anything better.

Bigger yes, hence my interest in projectors, slimmer ... I'm not really too concerned about a few centimeters.

I think the most useful feature to have would be to make Standard Definition material from broadcasters look more like HD. My pioneer is very good compared to others but there's still a long way to go. I believe one manufacturer is doing just that but I forgot who it was and whether the technology makes a huge difference without drawbacks.

having owned both technologies i cant get my head around anyone choosing an LCD over a plasma apart from buying below 37inch when you have no choice.

Perhaps but it's nice to have the choice. A friend of mine was very impressed with some of the more upmarket LCD sets. He actually thought I should buy one of the larger Sony's. It was only when looking at a couple of good plasmas he came round to preferring the better ones. When he saw the Pioneer he was immediately convinced, though it was displaying Sky HD at the time rather than SD.

Even though I agree with you at the moment I can see both sides. I would be surprised if my next flat tv is going to be a plasma the way things are going but I did consider what might happen over the next two or three years when choosing mine so it'll do fine until then.

Re: panasonic 50" pz80b plasma, better than equivilent lcd?

Bought my first Sony lcd 40" 2 years ago for football on Sky HD i was absolutely delighted with the picture quality on it with the HD footy, then recently decided i wanted a bigger screen so was thinking should i get plasma or lcd,so i was asking all the questions which is better, some said plasma others said lcd,i said i will be watching the football in HD and some said plasma handles fast moving action better but i didnt have any problems with my 2 year old sony lcd on motion and another guy instore said for watching Sky HD then LCD,and the thing that worried me about plasma was the screeen burn issue although most say its hard to get screen burn, also saw on another forum that someone who owned a plasma for 3 years prefers HD picture on his new lcd more brightness and detail he said,he did say SD was slightly better on the plasma

In the end i decided to stick with Sony lcds because i had no problems with my previous one and the HD  picture is stunning and they say you do get brighter sharper picture with lcd, bought the 52w4500 but had clouding problems so exchanged it for the 52w4000 and this one is perfect and again HD picture is superb so im more than happy with my Sony 52" lcd,i think its all down to personal preference,im not going to say anything bad about plasma because i have never owned one  im happy with lcd tvs especially when viewing HD contentYes

WHF did give this Sony tv 5 stars as wellWink
