Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

It's the eternal struggle in our house.

I would love to go nuts, but The Wife is totally against tacky decorations.

All we have is our 5' fake tree (white), with white baubles, white tinsel, and white lights.

Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

So long as no-one drapes tinsel within a country mile of the hifi/tv etc then I don't care what the wife and kids put up. (Tinsel sheds and can fall into vents on equipment.

I am for 'tasteful' the others are into tacky.

Before the pound tanked against the dollar, I was going  to treat myself to a kitsch selection from here...

The thought of Elvis baubles is rather disconcerting. Or can you imagine your OH saying: "let's illuminate Elvis. . ."

The reason why I ask is because most around our area go bananas - the whole roof and garden resemble an adventure playground, where we only have a 7' tree and some ceiling decorations.

Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

The parents normally have nice tasteful decorations in silver and gold, mainly just on the tree.

Had something pretty similar at my flat last year but i don't think i will be putting up any this year. I'm not really in the mood for Christmas this year.

Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

I love to go OTT with the decorations. The kids really love it and it just makes this time of year that little bit more special.

Saying that though I have gone from my own mortgaged property to rented this year so will probably have to be a little more reserved.....

If you have youngsters it sets the correct atmosphere. We were toying with the idea to have lights wrapped around our pear tree.

Did that one year, the results were spectacular if you want to start a forest fire! That was the end of that tree! Big Smile

Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

none.  not even cards.  christmas can ***** off.  and morons in santa hats.  "cheer up, it's christmas!",  "do you want a punch in the face?"

i don't like christmas, too cold and wet and dark.  they should move it to summer.

can you tell its been a long day?

Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

Craig you magnificent....

Although I can't complain about the cold and the wet. 'Round here Xmas is comparatively balmy, after the new year we really get into the thick of it.

"Xmas" is one of those fantastic arguments for atheism, or Judaism, or polytheism even. What's a fat putz that can travel faster than physics allow got to do with the birth of an immaculately conceived magical Jew? I mean... it's got to be balanced out. For every nativity scene and santa claus I see in december there should be a big illuminated Judas and Pilate at Easter. Where are the "vacant tomb" dioramas neatly placed on front lawns???

Re: Xmas decorations - d'you go OTT?

I do.

I switch all of my hifi kit on and the ambient green gives a nice Christmassy feel. It's almost as if Paul McCartney and The Pogues have come in to my front room I can tell you.
