Re: which hdmi?

I would assume the VDH otherwise the Chord would have kept it's title!
Cyrus 7 Amp, Straight Line Amp, CD6s, AV Master, Tri-Arbour Rack. MA RS1 on Super Dreadnaughts. MA RS LCR. Mission 78DS. Yamaha Sub. Pioneer DVD-LX50. Sony PS3. Samsung 37M86. Merlin Chopins, IRC6 and Tarantulas. Tacima Block. Grado SR60.

Re: which hdmi?

Indeed! The van den Hul beat everything else we've tested, including the Chord.

Re: which hdmi?

It's a close-run thing, though - the Chord remains an excellent cable. However, it's matched by the vDH, which isn't just cheaper, but slightly more flexible, too.

Re: which hdmi?

Or buy 10 or so v1.3 unbranded ones and never know the difference. And have some change.

Re: which hdmi?

Is Monster Cable any good? Apparently most gamers recommend it? I myself am looking for a hdmi cable but £50-£60 seems kinda excessive...

Re: which hdmi?

I have just ordered 3 VDH flat 1.5m hdmi's £189, and true colours optical, the way i now see it, is that i spent nearly £2k on the system so another £200 on pukka cables wont hurt.

Re: which hdmi?

The way u said about spending money is the best way to go about it and i think thats where a lot of people do not spend money is on cables, its no point having a good system unless u got good cables.i got over 25 grand worth of cables at least.

QED HDMI-P (Old version, but an award winner a few years back regardless), is £18 inc. delivery at Play.com. That's a great price for a great cable which has an RRP of £50.

Re: which hdmi?

Hi Folks

Do you recommend different HDMI cables for different types of equipment.  I have an Elite 360 console and have Sky+ HD, on order, and will eventually pickup a BD player and an AV receiver.  So would you pick the vDH, for all of the HDMI cables or different cables for each component.  TIA.

Re: which hdmi?

I'd try the HDMI that comes with the Elite 360 first, then try to get the vDH on trail & return and see if it makes any noticeable difference!

Absolutely you should have different cables for different types of equipment. It's no different to any other aspect in Hi-Fi - the objective of the cable is to minimise the loss of the signal from one component to another. So with a £200 CD player, you could hook this to your amp with a £1,000 cable and be absolutely sure you were getting the best out of your system, but this would be silly when it's likely a £20 cable would probably sound the same since the limitations are in the CD player. The same common sense rules should be applied when purchasing HDMI cables for your AV equipment i.e. spending £100 on an HDMI cable to connect a £60 DVD player is silly, but using it to connect a £1,500 Blu-Ray player up may be a good choice (NB - notice the "may" in that sentence!).
